The Role of Students in the Bologna Process

On March 17 and 24, 2006, seminars on “The Role of Students in the Bologna Process” were held at the Georgian Technical University and Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The seminars were co-organized by the local student unions.

Representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, European Commission Delegation to Georgia, National Unions of Students in Europe (ESIB), Civil Society Institute (NGO) participated in the seminar. Students from all over Georgia attended the seminar. The following topics had been covered:

  • students’ participation in quality assurance processes - assessment of teaching process, curricula, academic staff, etc;
  • students’ participation in the management of higher education institutions;
  • student mobility;
  • access to the higher education;
  • social impact of the Bologna Process;
  • student-oriented education;
  • recognition of qualifications;

At the seminar it was underlined that it is necessary to establish a national union of students in Georgia in order to become a full member of ESIB. The students stated that they plan to reactivate the already existing League of Student Organizations in Georgia and make it work in line with the Bologna principles. The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia will continue holding seminars for students about the Bologna Process as it was requested from different student organizations in Georgia.
